photoGet Oregonized is a history book written for grade four as students study Oregon's history. The text is designed to help students understand and appreciate the rich history, people and natural resources that shaped the state of Oregon. The book includes maps, illustrations, graphs as well as modern and historical photographs that compliment the easy to read and understand text. Classroom sets or individual copies can be purchased through Oregon Agriculture in the Classroom Foundation.

The new, 2007, version of Get Oregonized has a new section on berries and hazelnuts, an updated forestry section, more color pages and several new historical and modern pictures.

photoGet Oregonized is organized into two sections: Oregon's history and Oregon's geographic regions. The first section highlights various Native American tribes and the arrival of white people. Students learn about famous explorers including Lewis and Clark, pioneers on the Oregon Trail, and about Oregon life through the eyes and words of children their own age. Important historical pioneer figures are featured including Henderson Luelling, Tabitha Brown, Asahel Bush, Asa Mead Simpson and Abigail Scott Duniway.

photoSection two explores regions of the state. Students learn about geography, geology, climate, economy and agriculture throughout the state. From cranberries on the southern Oregon Coast to grass seed in the Willamette Valley, and from wheat in the Columbia Plateau to ranching in Oregon’s high desert, Get Oregonized captures a great deal of the state’s agricultural diversity.

The Teacher's Guide for Get Oregonized has also been updated. Each section features background information, learner objectives, vocabulary words, practical lesson plans, enrichment activities and answers to questions from the student book. Included are 63 activity pages, a student quiz for each chapter with answers and benchmark information presented through a matrix.

photoThe focus of the book is Social Studies with information on supply and demand, the processes of earning, saving, spending and budgeting, using maps, identifying locations and understanding how individuals changed or influenced the course of Oregon history.

Get Oregonized was first written over 20 years ago. Oregon teachers wrote each chapter. AITC updated and reprinted the book in 2005 and sold all 4,000 copies in just two years. 5,000 new books were printed in October, 2007.
